While the other telecom players including Reliance Communications, Aircel, and BSNL were busy announcing new tariff plans for competing with Reliance Jio's unlimited voice calling packs, the leading telecom operators (Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea) were playing the wait-and-watch game. Here's how Airtel & co plan to tackle this onslaught. The aggressive voice calling on two of India's largest carriers comes roughly three months after India's largest industrial house, RIL launched Reliance Jio telecom network. Priced at Rs 148, the packs offers free local and STD Idea-to-Idea calls all over India. Along with that, 300MB of data will be available to those Idea users having a 4G ready smartphone.
We were wondering whether Airtel would be able to match Jio's unlimited calling packs starting at Rs. 149 that come bundled with a fixed amount of 4G data.
Th other Idea voice call plan costs Rs 348 and offers free local and STD calls across all networks in India along with 50MB of data benefit.
"As people in India get into the holiday mode, they will tend to stay better connected with their loved ones". Both Airtel and Idea are providing 1GB of 4G data to customers with 4G handsets phone and 50 MB for non-4G mobile handset users under the plan. We hope they make the best out of this proposition. This means that company will offer 2GB of 4G data for Rs 255 against the earlier offered 1GB data.
Reliance Jio is offering free voice calls to all its subscribers from day one.
Similarly Airtel also on Thursday launched its free voice call plans across the country. Under the new plan, Vodafone is offering unlimited calling for recharges above Rs 144 and free roaming on Vodafone network and 50 Mb free data and for those above Rs 344 unlimited free calls and free roaming on all mobiles network and 300 mb free data for 4G handset users and 1 Gb data for 4G handset users. State-owned BSNL too has said it is considering new "less than" Rs 149 prepaid pack that will offer free calls to all networks from January.
If you didn't like above mentioned Airtel unlimited calling pack (Rs. 146), then this pack will not disappoint you.
