Trooper, suspect taken to hospital after shooting incident at Gastonia store

A trooper-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon was a result of a driver who tried to flee during a traffic stop, the district attorney of Gaston County said. After discovering he was wanted for a probation violation, Trooper Christopher Wade attempted to pull over 31-year-old Jeremy Lewis.
Both the trooper and the driver have been taken to the hospital.
A person was shot by a N.C. trooper during a traffic stop in Gaston County Tuesday, according to officials.
Both trooper and suspect are expected to survive.
"This incident again reminds us of the dangers our troopers face every day while trying to keep us safe", said Col. Bill Grey, commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
"Of course I'm going to be upset about it", he told the TV station.

Wade is now on administrative leave pending an internal investigation which is agency protocol.
The Highway Patrol and State Bureau of Investigation are divisions of the Department of Public Safety.
