The late Carrie Fisher and her character Leia Organa will not be in Star Wars: Episode IX despite her brother Todd Fisher's recent claims to the contrary.
She said the film will go "deep" into Rey's story and reveal how it can be hard meeting your heroes - presumably alluding to a cranky Skywalker. Apparently, there was some sort of confusion or miscommunication, though, according to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who was speaking at Star Wars Celebration today. This will not be the case. Carrie Fisher had finished filming her scenes as Princess/General Leia before she passed away last December.
The Star Wars Celebration had kicked off in Orlando on Friday and one of the main characters, Carrie Fisher, who died in December a year ago was missed.
Looper helmer RIan Johnson directed and wrote the screenplay for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. What was your favourite role of Carries?
Though Oscar Isaac (Poe) and Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) were no-shows at the panel, John Boyega (Finn) and new cast member Kelly Marie Tran (Rose, part of the Resistance) teased fans with new story details. I think the legacy should continue. We'll see a lot of her in VII, which is great, ' she added.
"We'd have these stream-of-consciousness jazz poetry ad-lib sessions and I would just scribble on my script everything she said". "Part of me did fall in love with her".
Billie also recited Carrie's famous Star Wars monologue, in which she pleads with Obi-Wan Kenobi for help, and said her mother taught her, "If life isn't amusing, then it's just true, and that is unacceptable". Lucasfilm also introduced a video tribute to Fisher, which can be viewed HERE. Fisher died in December.
"I want to celebrate her life", he explained. "[She] has the biggest new part in the movie and ironically is played by the smallest actor", said Johnson.
