Fifteen more people died of complications of the flu in North Carolina last week, as a deadly flu season drags on into spring.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says between 3,000 and 49,000 people die from flu each year, depending on the severity of the season. There have been 14 deaths total in DE from influenza this season.
Officials say the increase is due to four late reports received on deaths that occurred at the end of January and beginning of February.
Thirteen deaths were reported in Oklahoma County.
Tulsa County saw one additional flu death during the week of March 29-April 4, according to the department of health. All of the newly reported deaths were of adults aged 18 and older.
Oklahoma County has seen 13 deaths and 405 hospitalizations related to the virus.
The department of health continues to stress the importance of vaccinations, hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes and staying home when sick to prevent the spread of infection.
The most recent death was a 45-year-old Kent County man who had no underlying medical condition besides being ill with the flu.
