  • Court acquits suspended French consular official of rape

It may be recalled that Mazurier was accused of raping his three-year old daughter by his wife Suja Jones. The CCRU report, which was widely circulated in the media, said the child bore tell-tale marks of sexual abuse and there were traces of semen on her clothes.

The estranged couple were married in France in 2001 and have three children - two sons and a daughter.

The judgment was delivered in the presence of Pascal Mazurier.

"I am very happy with the verdict". His wife and complaint in the case, Suja Jones, however, said that she would appeal to the high court. "It has been a long battle", Mazurier said after a sessions court acquitted him. "He is innocent as even the DNA test was negative", said Special Court Judge BS Rekha, acquitting the French official of the offence. "My daughter was sexually violated and I kept telling her we will get justice for the past five years", she said.

Despite the Vienna convention stating that a diplomat can not be arrested or detained, Mazurier, however, was arrested on June 2012, following a complaint by his wife.

The Frenchman was let off after his boss, Vincent Caumontat, Deputy Consul, Head of Chancery gave a written undertaking that Pascal would remain with him in his house and submit himself to the authorities as and when he would be required.

Amid public outrage, the police arrested the diplomat after confirming that he didn't have diplomatic immunity. Based on the information, she filed a case against Mazurier.
