Kings XI started IPL 2017 in impressive fashion, winning their first two games, both of which were played in their "home" ground at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
Mumbai's fifth win from six matches came after it scored 199-2 in 15.3 overs, gunning down Kings XI's 198-4. The Mumbai Indians have on the other hand won four out of the total five matches played.
After an outstanding knock of 104 runs coming off Hashim Amla's bat, the Kings XI Punjab were pretty sure to win this game against the Mumbai Indians as they have set a target of 119 runs to win for the Mumbai Indians.
His co-opener Shaun Marsh, the most prolific ever run-scorer for Kings XI Punjab, had to wait five games into the season for a chance, but impersonated someone regular in the side with a sublime 21-ball 26 that's been made to look worse than it was by Rohit Sharma's packed off-side field.
But the partnership between Amla and Maxwell really boosted KXIP's run rate. But with the Mumbai Indians in really rampant mode, it may not be an easy job for them. Mumbai have not lost a game while chasing this season.
Even though Mumbai's top order is yet to click, the middle and lower order have more than made up for the poor starts.
Captain Glenn Maxwell's recent form adds to the misery as others except for Hasim Amla and Manan Vohra have misfired so far. Miller was left out of Kings XI's team for the first time in 30 games, since April 2015.
The next delivery was a wide, thus giving Mumbai Indians their highest powerplay score in all IPLs at 79, thus bettering their previous score of 78 which was scored back during the inaugural edition of the IPL against the Chennai Super Kings. This was Amla's first hundred in T20s, after he missed out on his maiden century a year ago during IPL 2016, when he scored 96 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The very next over from Malinga saw Amla punce on him taking 22 off that over and suddenly 50 runs came off two overs. However, the real rampage began from the next over onwards when Buttler smashed a boundary and a six off Sandeep Sharma.
After Parthiv Patel's dismissal, Jos Buttler was joined in the crease by Nitish Rana.
Thereafter, Hardik Pandya struck a four and a six in his 4-ball 15 before Rana pulled Mohit over the long leg boundary for a six to seal the deal in the visitors' favour. Kieron Pollard's contribution to the side can not be undermined after his match-winning knock against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
