  • Racist GOP State Senator Frank Artiles Calls Black Colleagues 'N--gers' and Lived

The conversation took place "over drinks" at a private club on Monday night, and since the incident gained media traction, the Democratic party of Florida has called for Artiles to resign.

"Senator Artiles owes the residents of Hialeah an apology for unfairly associating them with this kind of behavior", he said in a written statement.

Artiles apologized to Gibson late Tuesday after news reporters began asking questions about the incident, the Herald reports.

According to POLITICO, Thurston urged Artiles to apologize, but the Republican senator dodged a meeting Thurston arranged for the following morning, saying he had bills to present.

To Gibson and Thurston, it was clear Artiles wasn't referring to them or to any other Democrats as "niggas" but apparently to six Republicans who favored Negron for the job over Sen.

The legislative black caucus filed a formal complaint on Wednesday and requested that the Senate expel Artiles. "Dude, did you just say 'niggers?' Am I hearing that right?"

Artiles is fighting back against Roberts' representing the Senate, however, and is calling for an independent counsel to represent that chamber since Roberts has represented Artiles and other witnesses in separate matters.

"I'm embarrassed that I have somebody in Tallahassee with these types of words and views", protester Deltravis Williams said. When Thurston and another person at the table intervened to ask what Artiles meant, Artiles denied using the language and said he hadn't meant disrespect.

There aren't many ways local representatives can get some national attention, but using the n-word is definitely one of them.

It wasn't long before the governor chimed in, however, saying Artiles' comments were unacceptable. He has also been stripped of his Senate committee chairmanship, but says he's not stepping down. The Florida Democratic party has called for his resignation, while the state Republican party chairman did not, referring to Artiles' racist and sexist harassment of a colleague as a "truly unfortunate statement".

No, he should blame these latest troubles on his being coarse, insensitive, entitled and lacking in integrity to such as degree that by the time he delivered his second so-called "heartfelt apology" on the Senate floor Wednesday, days after the original offense, it was simply too late. "There is no excuse nor will I offer one. My comments to you are the most regretful of all because they injured you personally". "Racial slurs and profane, sexist insults have no place in conversation between Senators". A report and recommendations will then be submitted to the Senate Rules Committee Tuesday. "And I'm sick and exhausted of him truly being a bully in this process".
