In 2008 interview, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai said that Sony aimed to sell 150 million PS3s by the console's ninth year, surpassing the PlayStation 2's sales of 140 million in nine years on the market.

Sony's Japanese PlayStation website shows that shipments of the 500GB standard model have now ended, it was also the last model that was still being produced in the country. However, PlayStation Plus, which debuted at E3 2010, was a big success for the PS3, and introduced a library of free games for those who subscribed (and remained subscribers). Based on the game's popularity and a huge demand, they have decided to make a sequel to the game.

The botched launch of the PlayStation 3 combined with the exceptional buzz the Xbox 360 had generated until that point meant that Microsoft took a surprising lead in the hardware race in the early days of the competition.

The Turkish PlayStation Twitter account tweeted two titles for the June list, namely, "Life Is Strange" and the first-person shooter video game, "Killing Floor 2".

Sony has ceased manufacturing of the PS3 in Japan, the company today confirmed.

PlayStation 4 owners are reporting that updating to version 4.70 is tricky at best. In terms of overall longevity, however, the PS2 still reigns supreme, lasting 13 years before Sony finally put an end to its production back in 2013.

Sony first launched the PlayStation 3 back in November 2016 in Japan and the U.S. and a little later during March 2007 in Europe. Sony has only ended its production, but the console is still functional and ready to use.

"An update to the system software for PlayStation 4 systems was released on 30 May 2017".

The number of years Playstation 3 managed to last and stay relevant to gamers is pretty huge despite the fact that it has been more than three years since the PS4 console got launched. Sony claimed on its earnings report that it had shipped 60 million units of the PS4.
