Two years after the Amazon Echo first hit stores, and eight months after Google introduced the Home, Apple on Monday finally introduced its own speaker.

An afternoon recap of the day's most important business news, delivered weekdays. It's a smart wireless speaker powered by the Siri AI that seems created to compete with the likes of Amazon's Alexa and Google's Home speaker. The photo app will also be refreshed and will become more similar to Adobe's Photoshop.

iOS 11 will also have a Do Not Disturb feature for when you are driving to allow to to remain more focused on the road. Will it be a Siri speaker? The $349 price tag is a bit more expensive than comparably-sized internet-connected speakers, almost double the price of the Amazon Echo, and more than double the Google Home.

But the HomePod, priced at $349, is designed with high-end audio features like the ability to detect the size and shape of the room and use this information to adjust the sound of the speaker.

Despite consecutive quarters of slumping shipments, Apple made it clear on Monday that it remains dedicated to the iPad.

Apple says its new feature knows when you are driving and switches your iPhone into the new "Do Not Disturb While Driving" mode. Starting at US$4,999, it includes up to an 18-core Intel Corp processor and an Advanced Micro Devices Inc graphics chip.

There are also noteworthy changes coming on the software side.

Apple says Siri extends beyond voice, using on-device learning to deliver more personal experiences and offers suggestions based on personal usage of apps such as Safari, News, Mail and Messages.

The new iMac Pro starts at $5,000 and will ship in December.

Apple CEO Tim Cook launched iOS 11 with over 10 new features. Apple's speaker will be launching in the USA, U.K., and Australia in December, with additional markets to come next year.

Facebook and Google have already been investing million in augmented and virtual reality. The announcement comes as companies like Facebook and Microsoft have been aggressively pushing into the augmented reality space as well.
